Toll Free Service

Toll free numbers are telephone numbers with distinct three-digit codes that can be dialed from landlines with no charge to the person placing the call. Such numbers allow callers to reach businesses and individuals out of the area without being charged a long-distance fee for the call.

How does Toll Free Calling Work?

A toll-free number is unique because the telephone carrier charges the cost of calling the number to the called party, rather than the caller.

A toll-free number is assigned from a special dialing prefix range (also known as an area code) - such as 800 - where all calls to those prefixes are free to the caller.

The cost of the call is based on various factors, including the amount of usage the number receives, the cost of the trunk lines to the facility, and possibly a monthly flat-rate service charge.
